In March, the Gaming Control Authority under the Ministry signed an updated agreement with the organization for ensuring transparency in sports ULIS (United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports), becoming an associate member of the organization.
ULIS announced this cooperation in its communication: "We are happy to announce a new state institution - the Lithuanian Gambling Supervision Service, which has joined the network of members.
The Lithuanian Gaming Control Authority (GCA) has worked in partnership with ULIS since May 2018 when both organizations signed a cooperation agreement. After four years of successful collaboration, the GCA is now officially an associate member and will continue to strengthen its cooperation on exchange of information concerning suspicious sport and betting patterns.
The GCA is an institution under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania that participates in the implementation of state policy regarding gaming activities. It conducts gaming control to ensure that gaming activities are fair and transparent, and protects the rights and interests of players. In addition, it is responsible for supervising and controlling the operation of lotteries in the country, to protect the interests of players and operators, while its main priority is to ensure the proper enforcement of legal regulations concerning gaming and lotteries.
For Virginijus Daukšys, Director of the GCA, “the two organizations share the same objectives, values, and commitment to tackle the phenomenon of match-fixing. The data and information we receive from ULIS, helps us to look carefully into the different sport events taking place in our country and it can be used as an important element of our investigations at the national level”. "We hope for successful cooperation in the future as well," added V. Daukšys.
The GCA draws the attention of gaming operators to the fact that the prompt exchange of available information effectively contributes to transparency in Lithuanian sports, ensures the protection of the interests and rights of gamblers and gaming operating companies. In order to achieve the stated goals, we invite gaming operators to actively cooperate and provide information on observed suspicious cases or bets, also other actions that testify to possible agreements in sports. In turn, the GCA is ready to share relevant data received from ULIS or other partners in order to make the prevention and clarification of agreed matches more effective.
